The "Gaetano Zinetti" International Music Prize is a competition established in 1996 by the Municipality of Sanguinetto in memory of the local composer and conductor Gaetano Zinetti, who lived between the 19th and 20th centuries (1873-1911). The main objective of the initiative has been from the beginning to promote the best musical talents to provide an opportunity that contributes to their establishment in the difficult world of concert performance. The format is open to all musical styles and languages, and stipulates that all stages of the Competition be open to the public.

Special Prizes are also provided, awarded to the youngest finalist in the "Soloists" category and to the youngest pianist semifinalist or finalist in the "Soloists" category.
