Dearest Beethovenians, exactly 200 years ago today (October 22nd), Beethoven's great biographer was born in Natick (USA). After studying at Harvard, he came to Europe in 1849 to write the most complete and "true" biography of Beethoven. He was elected consul in Trieste in 1865 and from that year lived in that city until his death in 1897. He is buried in Trieste, and I recently collaborated on the restoration of his tomb.
I have taken the liberty of remembering him in this forum for this special anniversary, also because of my numerous researches that I have carried out and writings (including a book) on this figure and an exhibition at the Beethoven-Haus in 2010.
His biography was published in German and English, and even in Japanese. It is a pity that it has not been translated into Italian, but this also applies to other biographies of Beethoven.
A distance of 200 years later, Thayer deserves a thought on this site about Beethoven.
