It is not difficult to decide what to do: go there with a hammer, repair the shelves and put more books. The act of vandalism indeed has a precise political significance, as do the malicious comments, and persistence is the only response.

They will not read, not yet. Perhaps next time or the one after, someone will ask WHY we strive so hard to keep books in the square.
