Hi. Could you recommend some Android software suitable for piano recording? I have tried various apps and the sound always turns out dark with muffled high frequencies, sometimes harsh. I know I cannot expect a professional recording with a cell phone, but if possible, I would like to make decent recordings that are as realistic as possible compared to the sound of my piano. Where is the best place to position the cell phone?
Hi Francesco. The recording on the mobile phone does not depend on the app you use, it obviously always depends on the microphone. Unfortunately, mobile phone microphones are very limiting in recordings. You have to consider that a mobile phone microphone has a capsule size of about 2/3 millimeters. These dimensions, besides being necessary to miniaturize the phone, also adapt to the type of signal they must acquire (the interlocutor's voice) and cut out quite a lot of low frequencies. That is why you hear the highs as very sharp.
There is not much you can do unfortunately to improve audio capability in these conditions, even by moving the phone to different positions around the piano. Paradoxically, it is much better to move it further away, but you still wouldn't get good results. There are instead microphones available on Amazon that connect to your mobile phone and greatly improve recording quality, and they are not necessarily very expensive either.
