Hi, but is it possible to manage videos with Audacity, I mean, take an 'image, a cover and place it on an mp3 in order to make a small video file to put on youtube?
Alternatives?

I don't think it can be done with Audacity.
Alternatives:
Adobe Premiere
Sony Vegas
Openshot
Lightworks
kdenlive
iMovie
Windows Live - Movie Maker
VideoLAN Movie Creator
Final Cut Pro
Pinnacle Studio
Cyberlink Power Director
Corel VideoStudio
AVS Video Editor
Avid Media Composer
Is that enough?

The simplest, most effective and free one?

Mmmm. Honestly, I wouldn't know; I've been using the Adobe suite for a lifetime for graphics and video editing, for coding... it depends... For Web, Visual Studio or Dreamweaver depending on the complexity; for software, Visual Studio or Xcode for Mac. Regarding these programs, I would say that if you have a Mac, there's iMovie; if you have a Windows system, Windows Movie Maker should already be pre-installed in Windows XP versions. iMovie is also available for iPhone or iPad; if you have one of these devices, you can use those easily too. Editing a video onto an MP3 without too many pretensions doesn't seem to me like a task for professional editing software.
Take a look and let me know.

If you have the possibility of having Nero Vision, you would solve the problem because it has all the necessary functions; the latest version is not necessary (version 7 or 8 are fine), the only limitation of these 2 versions is that they do not read MPEG4 or MP4, whereas from version 9 you can read everything except for the .mkv format
Otherwise there are several free software programs, see the site http://www.divxdoor.it and you will also find tutorials (practical guides).
Anyway VirtualDub is the best ... a bit ugly, but it works.
look at avidemux too.
