Too bad

It really seems true, Sibelius is at its last release. Lucky are those who bet on Finale.

A real shame... I had already learned the news some time ago

For the enthusiasts, Sibelius has been taken over by Pro Tools. Thanks to this acquisition, they are refining the notational aspect in addition to the "classic" piano roll.

Sorry, but Pro Tools is by Avid just like Sibelius: what's new about it? However, I see that in PT11 they have implemented a Sibelius editor and saving in Sibelius format.

From memory, it hasn't always been Avid's. From what I know, it is destined to "die" as notation software and that's it...

Now compatibility issues have arisen with Sibelius and Pro Tools with Mavericks (Apple's most recent OS). Does anyone have direct experience?

Latest versions of both software(s)?

Latest Apple OS with the software mentioned above, both latest versions and previous ones. As far as Sibelius is concerned, there would be problems with both version 7 and version 6 (while version 5 wouldn't run at all even since OS Lion).

Thank you, but yes, I had read it. I was interested in knowing if anyone has direct experience to properly understand the degree of incompatibility.

Ah, I hadn't understood.
I don't use Arnés aggressively; I had done some tests and it seemed to me that, apparently, everything worked while doing elementary things. It is clear that if someone starts using many of the products, if incompatibilities are declared, one could run into some problem... more or less serious.
Is there something specific you don't like? And while doing what? Maybe I can see if I have the same problem too....

Thanks, the point is this: I have Snow Leopard and Sibelius 6; I would have liked to purchase Logic (which seems to be something amazing), but it requires the latest operating system: Mavericks, precisely. And here the problems arise, because I read that Sibelius does not work well with Mavericks. With previous versions of Logic, on the other hand, Sibelius used a synchronization system called Rewire.
In reality, I am also trying to figure out if it is worth giving up Sibelius (and it really annoys me, considering what I paid for it a few years ago) and using only the editor of the new Logic; it's just that I have years of sheet music inside Sibelius... How do I put them into Logic...? In short, if you want to upgrade, it's quite a mess.

The only way is to export in MIDI format and after importing into Logic (or Cubase), a bit of editing work with the piano roll

Yeah, that's what I had thought of doing. In fact, I am gradually trying to understand (also with the video courses from good old Simone) if in Logic I can achieve the same things that I had set in Sibelius with MIDI messages... But certainly yes, perhaps mine is just an irrational fear, having always worked in a different way. Of course, it would really annoy me to have wasted all that money on Sibelius just three years ago...
In the meantime, I received an email from Midiware (the Italian distributor for Avid) which explained to me that Sibelius 6 will not be made compatible with Apple's new operating system anyway, so I would have to upgrade (120 euros) to Sibelius 7 (provided they resolve the compatibility issues, since the Sibelius technicians have been laid off). The new Logic costs 180, the upgrade to Maverick is free... In short, I think I will soon say goodbye to Sibelius. It's a shame, because I know it like the back of my hand.

But do you really need to upgrade to the latest Logic? Otherwise, stick with the version you have + Sibelius if that works for you. If instead you really need to switch to Pro X, then it seems to me there are no alternatives.

This is a good question... The fact is that if you fall behind on the operating system with your Mac, what happens is that soon supported software can no longer be found. For example, I would have gladly purchased Logic 9, but it is no longer available. It's a bit like keeping a discontinued car, for which at a certain point you can no longer find accessories and spare parts.
On the other hand, it is also true that it is better to keep a system consolidated by all the necessary updates, rather than having to continuously wait for new ones amidst various bugs and problems...
I don't know, I am undecided and I am trying to think it through, thanks in part to your considerations.

If you have resources, you could also consider virtualizing the old software layers that are still compatible and updating the rest
