This video is very interesting; the quality of the orchestra of "recent graduates" is impressive, and referring to Boulez as conductor, one must recognize that although he is "pedantic," he is never offensive or arrogant toward young conductors (and some in this masterclass are rather mediocre).
He invites them to find THEIR own effectiveness, without having to imitate him. This does not happen with many revered Italian masters. He says sensible things and is even moderately witty, which never hurts and makes one feel at ease.
A beautiful musical and educational testimony, and even though he was cold as a metal blade, he was certainly a great personality.
