i extracted the action of my upright piano and, while checking the various tolerances, there is a lever that has excessive play compared to the others before bringing the escapement finger into contact with the nut; furthermore, the dampers start to move as soon as the lever is touched, which in turn brings the escapement into contact with the nut.
i wanted to ask if it is normal for the lever to actuate the damper as soon as it moves; if not, how should I intervene and how can I recover the excessive play on the lever: perhaps I should intervene by bending the spoon?
You mean the music rest... not the bridge. Well, the entire mechanism needs to be adjusted: hammer-string distance; correct height of the wippens; escapement point; check point. Finally, check the dampers and act on the damper levers.... but perhaps the felts that carry them are too worn, bringing the rods too close to the levers (so the damping starts immediately!) I prefer, before touching the damper levers, to change the damper felt bushings for both low, middle, and high registers
