Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and also to the world of tuning. A friend asked me to try tuning his piano, which was previously tuned to 436. He would like to bring it to 440. What problems might occur? I imagine that the settling in will be more complicated and that maybe after a few weeks it will need to be retuned. In terms of strings, tuning pins, possible breakages?

Yes, some strings might break....or none at all. Besides, one should probably tune it at least half a tone higher all at once to avoid having to retune multiple times. It depends on the condition of the strings and the age of the instrument. If it has been at 436 for many years, a "leveling crease" has formed which, if combined with parts corroded by rust, can create a weakening of the string and an increased possibility of breakage. So proceed with caution! If tuning under unfavorable conditions, eventually reach 440 in at least two or three tunings and one stabilization tuning. After a month, check the state of the tuning fork and the tuning. Good luck with your work.
