I know Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings very well. It has also been used in genres other than classical. Puff Daddy used it as an intro for the single "I'll be missing you" dedicated to his friend "The Notorious B.I.G.", who died in a shooting in 1997. (Not all versions include this intro). I have even happened to hear it in dance music tracks, often used as an intro). In short, it is a piece used in many other contexts as well. The original version is for strings; all in all, I think I appreciate it more in the choral version, which was transcribed by Barber himself and to which the words of the Agnus Dei were adapted.
