Guys, I am about to purchase a CLP535 Clavinova for my son, 12 years old, who is approaching the piano; he already plays the SAX. However, I am still undecided whether to get a YDP163 (I would save as much as 500 euros). But from what I have learned here and there, the GH3X keyboard of the 535 should be worth the extra cost compared to the GH3 of the 163, especially for a beginner. Do you also confirm? And finally, even if it is perhaps off-topic, which headphones should I get?
I agree with what you wrote above. For headphones, I would suggest open or semi-open back. The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro is good; if you want to spend less, the AKG K121 or K141. Keep in mind that if you go for a high-impedance model, you will also need to buy a headphone amplifier because the listening experience will be cleaner, but you will need a higher signal level. With these models I recommended, there is no need, and they are perfectly fine for what your son needs.
I forgot... At 12 years old, one has excellent hearing, so for the sake of your child's ear protection, keep volumes tending towards low and take a 5/10 minute break every 30/45 minutes of activity. The hair cells inside the cochlea will thank you over time.
