Excerpt from a composition competition announcement (http://www.progettokomos.it/):

"Composers of any nationality, age, gender, and sexual orientation may participate in the competition."

Errors aside, I find the last clarification rather useless, despite the context in which the competition arises.

I share this. The world of choirs is overflowing with homosexuals, all more or less out and militant, but so far I haven't heard anyone agree with the "battles" of the Komos choir. Labeling a choir as gay is useless, as well as ridiculous. Opening a call for applications to that world is useless, as well as ridiculous...

I think that since the choir was uselessly labeled as Gay, they probably feared that straight people would implicitly feel excluded ...
