Dear Pianoexpert, while reviewing one of your tutorials on the nomenclature of the pf, I noticed that on the cast iron plate part where the wooden soundboard is underneath—basically where the pin holes are—I noticed some numbers stamped..... what are they for? THANKS in advance ..and best regards
Naturally, these are the numbers for the steel string diameters. Each number corresponds to a diameter: 13; 13 1/2; 14; 14 1/2... and so on. It is nonetheless appropriate, should one or more strings need to be changed, to check the diameters. In fact, the tailpiece might have even been "recalculated," perhaps by increasing some measurements.
