In my opinion, playing a grand piano or an upright piano has nothing to do with avoiding tendonitis. All pianos have a key weight that is, more or less, around 50 grams. (Steinway is around 47). However, we might find a grand piano (even of a major brand) that, due to mechanical friction issues, far exceeds these values. It's not the brand, but rather the condition of the piano... even if it's new. Furthermore, quality is important. The era is also important. Many factors influence the choice, and one cannot state from a distance which piano is suitable for the situation (which I would examine from another perspective: tendonitis can also come from poorly conducted practice and requires, first and foremost, rest, before resuming a "tension-free" technique - see video tutorials on piano technique). A competent and, above all, disinterested technician can examine an instrument that is in good condition or that can be well-regulated. This is fundamental.
