Charlie Parker's Last Obsession

On a freezing winter day in 1955, a man with an unconvincing appearance wanders through Central Park and, staggering, reaches the vicinity of a bench. Here, after a brief conversation, he entrusts a package he always carried with him to a lovely French girl. Wayne Shorter certainly jumped in his chair when Art Blakey's housekeeper (the woman from the park) handed him the curious parcel and, upon opening it, discovered that it had belonged to Charlie Parker. The contents: a record by Marcel Mule, a great "classical" saxophonist, a German book of violin exercises, and an unpublished autographed musical score.
The encounter between Parker and classical music takes place in 1939, precisely with Bach: Bird used some of the German composer's pieces as patterns, though unfortunately the reference works are unknown. Five years later, he finds himself living with a young Miles Davis. During this period, not only does he become familiar with Bach's writing along with the trumpeter, but he also practices on sophisticated saxophone repertoire, such as Debussy's Rhapsodie and the transcription of Ravel's Piece en forme de Habanera. However, this new world is not yet a source of true artistic inspiration for him: Bird limits himself to taking a few ideas, but nothing more.
