Good morning everyone,

I have often come across tunings on normal pianos played without other instruments that were tuned based on 438Hz or 442Hz.

Not to mention the pseudo-theory about 432Hz...

Someone mentioned the possibility of predicting, with temperature changes, the expansion in different octaves.

As a physicist, this seems like something for dowsers.

I am absolutely opposed to pitch standards other than 440. The piano is designed to play at 440. In the calculation of string length and gauge, standard frequencies are taken into account. The respective tensions take into account the choice of gauge relative to their length. A lowered or excessively high pitch distorts the choice of optimal string tension and could sacrifice the instrument's timbre.

Temperature can affect tuning. Temperature and relative humidity affect the movement of the soundboard and therefore the strings. But in my opinion, it has nothing to do with "octave stretching." All intervals can be altered with the loss of tuning. It is not possible to "predict," especially since detuning can be caused by the settling or stretching of the strings, and this can be caused by the movement of the soundboard as well as the movement of the pins.

Everything proves to be quite complex and therefore unpredictable

Hello everyone! Reading your posts, I was wondering if these frequency differences are also perceptible on digital or hybrid pianos, perhaps through system settings. Personally, for the Romantic repertoire that I prefer, I wouldn't know if a slightly different tuning could change the atmosphere of the piece or if it is truly just a technical matter of string tension.
