There are pianos with somewhat thick music rests, and when the lid is closed, the black keys end up being pressed (as in the attached photo).
Does this affect the "health" of the keys and the action?

I cannot see the photo. Anyway, make sure (it seems to me it is vertical) that the hinges keep the music desk closed in its resting position without looseness. Or replace the hinges themselves. Lastly, if necessary, replace the music desk. Problem: You must paint or lacquer the music desk, assuming you can find it unfinished. One solution could be attaching a small folding music desk to the front panel. This was used on some period pianos.
Anyway, none of this compromises the hammers and keys....but it would be better to avoid it.
Another solution is to reduce the thickness of the existing music desk and/or see if it was mounted incorrectly, perhaps with hinges that protrude too much.
