Classical music boom in Italy: revenues grow by 53% in the first 9 months of the year
Seeing a plus sign in the recording market is news in itself. In Italy, in an extremely difficult context, the classical music segment shows for the first time a signal of strong counter-trend: having grown by 53% in the first nine months of 2013, it now represents as much as 12% of the Italian market, compared to only 7% reached in 2012.
Well yes, but then why is everyone complaining?

That's fine, but the numbers are perhaps a bit misleading.. the non-classical "segment" (which is almost an oxymoron given the proportions) is shifting more and more towards download, while classical remains physical for various reasons (listening quality, return to vinyl, music mania, etc..). If classical sells 7 and non-classical 93, we are at 7%; if non-classical drops to 63, we are at 10% (but in the meantime, that missing 30 has perhaps moved to download).
