Upon Antares' suggestion, a new composition workshop dedicated to melody harmonization (free ensemble) is proposed.
As usual, this space will be dedicated to comments and the following one to collect the works.

Some points seem difficult to me, melody probably to be entrusted to a violin (flute not bad either).

How do you think 'sostenuto' should be translated? 100 to the fourth?

How do you plan to handle the F# that goes to F in the first measure?

I didn't decide the tempo... but I'm thinking less than 100... I proposed the melody precisely because it is giving me some little problems!!!!
Regarding the instrumentation... I had also opted for one of the two, although personally, not being a violinist, I don't know if they would be able to hold the last legato on a single bow stroke.
For the F#, personally I was thinking of a secondary dominant, but I haven't decided yet.

But those are phrase slurs, not bowings. In the event that you wanted to assign it to a violin, you would have two possibilities:
- preserve the phrase slur; it will be up to the violinist to guarantee the legato effect
- write the bowings and remove the phrase slur (if you are not a violinist, I wouldn't venture too much... also because they depend on many factors and often, unless in contexts driven by timbral considerations, they would practically be changed immediately by the violinist)
In the case of flute, pay attention to the dynamics parameter

Of course, the F# could be a raised fourth, but then it goes to F natural. If it were a passing tone (the F natural), then you should aim for Eb on beat 1 of measure 2.

My current one, which I might change later, is V/V V5-6 I

Avoided cadence, it seems good to me, but I would do V24/V V56 | I

Mmmh why I don't like it

Written poorly... I was saying, why not... I like it!

Rather, I don't really know how to harmonize the beginning of measure 7 D-flat B-natural

I'm forgetting one thing, Dilettante personally I think that sostenuto is somewhere between an adagio and an andante... 70-80 I would say, then maybe others will have other ideas.
Rather, apart from myself, is anyone else trying to harmonize it? Anyway, I have to do it for an assignment

... aren't they double appoggiaturas?
Member
Mmmmh I hadn't actually thought of that... I'm not used to double notes

I can't do it, but if you post it, I'll gladly take a look.

I'll post it as soon as I'm ready... I think in a few days. I've finished it, but I need to review it for a moment.

Tomorrow evening or at most Saturday I will publish my version

Maybe Sunday, I hadn't planned that I am also working tomorrow... we have to chalk the harpsichord.

I have just published, I opted for voice and piano, even though the melody would have been better on violin or flute... to make it as much like a Lied as possible, apart from the lack of lyrics.
