I am asking for your opinion regarding this creaking sound that can be heard when I press the forte pedal, as shown in the video below.
I am adding two elements:
1) it is strictly related to the upper part (and not to the pedal). It originates from the contact between the horizontal steel rod and the contact with the damper felts, as seen in the first part of the video below.
2) it began to manifest when I inserted one of these Tarmiblock moth repellent sachets (image attached) inside the action.
by "eye and cross" [guesswork], it doesn't seem to me to depend on the mechanics. It could be the damper lift bar itself. Once the bar has been degreased (by removing the small supports, one of which is "left-handed" and degreasing it) If it still does it, I would apply a little DRY TEFLON spray between the bar and the felt of the damper rests. DO NOT USE GREASY LUBRICANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! If, by any chance, they have been used in the past....this could be the cause. I don't think it depends on the anti-moth treatment.
Anyway, the anti-moth treatment must not be used. When you play, the moth does not live!!!! only if the instrument is inactive for very long periods of time
However, I wanted to understand how to apply the graphite. Do I use a small brush and apply it to both the metal and the felt?
Unfortunately, living in quite a wild area, I have to deal with all kinds of dangers. Starting with these absolutely foul carpet beetles that are also fond of felt.
Those "injections" of lubricant (grease!!!) work instantly, but the problem resurfaces with interest. It is always better to use dry lubricants, but only to facilitate and optimize mechanics that are already working well. Otherwise, they are just a palliative: friction problems must be solved at the source by searching for the cause.
