It doesn't seem right to me and, anyway, it seems extremely unlikely for various reasons: to name one, in his travel letters he reports practically no interest in works of art that he must certainly have happened to see, in Italy as elsewhere. And this is incompatible with a person who, especially in his time, could have cultivated a practice in the figurative arts.
Where did you read it, or hear it said?
