Today I had some steel strings replaced (9 in total) on my 3/4 grand piano because they were buzzing and had lost a good 30% of their sonic performance. Perhaps this will continue until all of them are changed, but the difference is already very noticeable.
The buzzing has been resolved and the sound is much more harmonic, but there is some slight coplanarity issue (in my opinion) because the impact on the forte in some keys gives a negative effect (which was also present before, along with the disharmony of the steel which is now kaput), especially when rebouncing (I believe that when the hammer returns to strike the string again, it comes into contact with one of the trio that vibrates more than the others)
Wasn't the hitch pin supposed to be replaced as well? I am talking about minimal differences, on the order of tenths of a millimeter, I wouldn't know how to quantify precisely (4, 5?)
It doesn't go away despite having retuned them a little while ago so that they could settle.
Generally, one proceeds to restore the flatness of the strings using the appropriate tool and hook. Then you must verify by gently lifting the hammer against the string, ensuring that if the three strings are plucked, they result in a "stopped" sound.

Watch out for a detail that can make a difference.
In the case of a double string made of spun strings, both strings must be replaced; by replacing only one of the two, there will be significant sonic differences!!
Another thing I noticed is some "single" copper strings with a different knot, Italian instead of French, and I will have to have those changed as well.
