Dearest Pianoexpert, I saw on YT that someone, to restore smoothness to the center pins of the action, used to "syringe" them with drops of alcohol........... is such a practice useful??

You can try, but I am skeptical about the result. The malfunction may depend on the curvature of the pins or the swelling of the wood and Kasimir. In both cases, the pin must be replaced and enlarged. Instead, sometimes it is effective to pull it out from one side and heat it. Then reinsert it and do the same from the other side.

As a good restorer, if I may add a detail.... it doesn't seem good to use alcohol because while for the moment it may give the impression of relieving some tension, containing a small amount of water, this can lead to subsequent oxidation. Is that right, Paolo?
