I've always noticed that, at high volume, both the earbuds and the headphones I wear tend to sound "differently."
Let me explain...
It seems like a natural thing but, as I said, at high volume, the hertz seem to increase, meaning, maybe from 440 it goes to 450 let's say; do you understand what I mean?
It is nonetheless difficult to put everything in writing...
I have the impression that the music "increases in degree" (I use these words only to try to describe it) and this is somewhat confirmed when, leaving the headphones or earbuds at high volume, I take them off my ears and listen to them "unworn"; this difference in "sound" or other, as mentioned & tried to describe, can be felt...
Do you know how to "prevent" this phenomenon or do you recommend some headphones or earbuds capable of not "modifying" the pitch (if it can be said) of the track itself?
At a psychoacoustic level, this happens mainly on high frequencies. By significantly increasing the sound level, one gets the impression that the pitch also increases slightly. Tuners know something about this; it is no coincidence that it is said that you tune by playing loudly but listening quietly.
To bypass this problem, you can listen to music with headphones that have a good frequency response in both highs and lows, meaning they are well-balanced. If the sound of high frequencies is well-balanced with that of low frequencies, this effect tends to decrease.
In any case, especially with headphones, I recommend that you never listen to music at too high a volume. Firstly, because at too high a volume you only have the illusion of hearing better; in reality, once a certain volume is exceeded, you hear worse because the basilar membrane of the inner ear tends to move even in areas not directly subjected to resonance, therefore increasing the sense of confusion regarding the sound source. Secondly, because hair cells unfortunately do not regenerate and are extremely fragile, so once they are dead, you will never hear those specific frequencies again, and in the long run, you end up having serious hearing problems. Practically speaking, there is no objective reason to justify listening to music at high volume: you hear it worse and it even hurts you.
