Selection among Composition students
ECO Project 2013/2015
The project
The ECO Project (European Contemporary Orchestra) was born in 2010 from the desire of some of the most important European Ensembles—Télémaque (Marseille/France, Raoul Lay), Orkest de Ereprijs (Apeldoorn/Netherlands, Wim Boerman), and Musiques Nouvelles (Mons/Belgium, Jean-Paul Dessy)—to join forces to create an orchestra specialized in the performance of contemporary music. In association with Gaudeamus Music Week (Utrecht/Netherlands, Henk Heuvelmans), ECO commissions new works of every aesthetic and stylistic type to composers living in Europe.

Given the enormous success achieved in the past edition, the European partners have decided to submit an application to the European Community for the next triennium 2013/2015.
The partners for 2013/2015 are:
Ministry of Education, University and Research MIUR
National Contemporary Ensemble of the Conservatories (created under the aegis of MIUR and the “Orchestra Nazionale dei Conservatori” Association)
Ensemble Télémaque of Marseille (France, proposing entity)
Ensemble Musique Nouvelles of Mons (Belgium, proposing entity)
Malta contemporary Music Association
Uniunea de Creatie Interpretativa a Muzicienilor din Romania (proposing entity)
Selection
The ECO Project 2013/2015 announces a selection among Composition students enrolled in the Three-year or/and Two-year degree or equivalent level of the Old System in the Academic Year 2012/2013 for:
Category A. for the year 2013:
1 Scholarship of €3,000 + residency
Category B. for the year 2014
2 Scholarships of €1,500 + residency
Category A.
ONLY students enrolled in the Academic Year 2012/2013 in the Two-year degree or equivalent level of the Old System may participate in this category.
The selected student, in addition to the scholarship, will receive a commission to compose a piece for the following ensemble of 33 performers:
Flute (+ Piccolo)
Oboe (+ English Horn)
Clarinet (Bb / A)
Clarinet (+ Bass Clarinet)
Sax (Soprano + Alto)
Sax (Tenor + Baritone)
Horn
Trumpet
Trombone
Tuba
Accordion
Piano
Electronic keyboard
3 Violins
3 Violas
3 Cellos
Double bass
2 Electric guitars
Electric bass
3 Percussionists
2 Sopranos
Mezzo-soprano
DJ (or electronic technician)
Sound engineer
The absolute first performance of the piece composed by the selected student will take place on August 3, 2013, in Sibiu (Romania).
Category B.
ONLY students enrolled in the Academic Year 2012/2013 in the Three-year and/or Two-year degree or equivalent level of the Old System may participate in this category.
The selected student, in addition to the scholarship, will receive a commission to compose a piece for the following ensemble of 6 performers:
Sax (Tenor + Baritone)
Trombone
Accordion
Electronic keyboard
Electric guitar
Percussion
The absolute first performance of the piece composed by the selected student is scheduled for April 2014.
Selection Procedures
Each AFAM Institute may participate in the selection for category A and B with a single candidate.
Therefore, in the event that there are multiple eligible candidates, each Conservatory or Equivalent Musical Institute must hold its own internal selection to identify its candidate.
Each candidate must submit:
2 scores in digital .pdf format
recording of the submitted scores in digital audio .mp3 format
curriculum vitae in digital .pdf format
completed participation form, filled out in every section and signed by the Director of the Conservatory or
Equivalent Musical Institute of affiliation
The documentation must be sent via email to Luca Macchi (ECO Project representative for Italy) at the following address: l.macchi@conservatorio.sassari.it no later than November 23, 2012, for category A, and no later than December 7, 2012, for category B.
The submitted scores will be examined by a commission composed of Raoul Lay (director of the Ensemble Télémaque) and Jean Paul Dessy (director of the ensemble Musique Nouvelle).
