It could quite easily be a drum kick sample

Sure, but electronically processed since it seems "dampened" to me and replayed with effects (ups and downs in dynamics)

Well, I thought it was obvious that it was electronic; I believed the question was meant to be: is it synthesis or sampling.

It could be a drum kick sample with a low-pass filter and some pitch shifting applied

Be sure that 450% of those who make hip hop tracks (they call them beats, it is now established and recognized at an almost scientific level) don't even know what synthesis is.

And anyway, how beautiful this piece is. You can also hear the samples in the bells (at the limit of being concrete), in the sound of the flowing air. There is also synthesis in various noises that are used throughout the track.

And anyway, she has a phenomenal voice and from an artistic point of view, she is truly a great talent.

There is the loop of this "kick" that is always present, discreet; despite the drums, you can feel that this sound is not the real kick but it stitches the beginning to the end, and in the finale proposed with a rallentando of the pulse overlaid with the fragment played by the bells which, although they apparently seem fading, nonetheless end on a "tonic".
