on my upright piano I have noticed that numerous knuckles have lost or almost lost the felt cushion that softens the contact on the escapement finger knuckle once tripped.
I intend to provide for their replacement and therefore wanted to ask how important the thickness of the felt is (e.g., 3 or 4 mm) and how this influences the action, what needs to be adjusted post-intervention and which references to use, and the precautions to take. Furthermore, some knuckles have lost the green felt filling interposed between the deer skin where the escapement slides and the knuckle (indicated in the attached photo): can I replace it with cashmere?
thickness of the pad is the same as the others. walnut case strictly padded in leather. green felt of the same thickness. It is a job of medium difficulty. I don't see any photos.
Hello, I noticed that on my old upright piano the felt of the hammer heads in the middle register notes is very worn and in some cases totally worn out, while the part where the escapement acts is in good condition.
I would like to know what defects this might cause, given that the hammers, apparently, are still performing their function well.
