Next Thursday I'm going to see a piano from a private seller, a Shigeru Kawai 6, 210 cm from 2002. Unfortunately, my trusted technician is the only person I've heard so far who hates Shigeru and Kawai in general, saying that they don't hold tuning, that they cause a lot of problems, strings break, etc. So I will go alone (with a female pianist friend of mine who knows less than I do). So, I devoured the videos by Maestro Ferrarelli where he explains what and where to look; are there any other precautions to take?
I also had another couple of questions.
Do you happen to know how much it costs to rent a crane? Unfortunately, I don't think it will fit through the stairs...
But above all, are these Shigerus (which anyway have the same action as the RX and GX models) really that obscene?
i have had a Kawai KG2 since 1986. Personally, I much prefer the Kawai keyboard to the Yamaha one. My piano, despite quite intensive use, is still in excellent condition.
the string issue might be true; I had to change some because they broke, fortunately they were all treble strings which I replaced myself without major problems; as for tuning, it doesn't seem that dramatic to me, of course it also depends on the conditions in which the piano is kept (room humidity, heat sources, etc.). The Shigeru are Kawai's flagship series; if you look online, you will find people comparing them to the most prestigious German brands, like Bösendorfer and Bechstein; generally, however, the reviews are positive.
I am also thinking of switching to a Shigeru 3/4 grand; if it doesn't eventually satisfy you, could you put me in touch with the person selling it? It is not easy at all to find them used ... Thank you
I also have a Kawai KG2S. Original strings. A piano that is now almost 20 years old. Never broken a string. They only started showing some rust just now. Regarding your tuner, you have to see what they are used to; it's obvious that if they make a comparison with a Steinway, the argument doesn't hold up. Personally, I like the Yamaha keyboard more than the Kawai one. On the Yamaha, to my touch, there seems to be less key dip and less key weight; I would say it works better than the Kawai one, which is a bit sluggish. However, for a Yamaha, you should go for a C5. In any case, from what I know, the Shigeru Kawai are the new series that should be superior to my KG2S, and a 210cm model certainly has a better sound.
