I am opening this topic to invite you to talk about your figures of...... the world of music or the absurd situations you have witnessed
I'll start
A wedding where I was accompanying a choir. I am told that the bride's uncle (typical), from the south (even more typical) wants to sing the Ave Maria during the offertory. Since it had been 10 years since I last practiced this genre, I procured a score, gave it a quick review, and brought it with me to use (as a pretext).
The guy was supposed to practice it before the mass, as agreed with the bride, but he showed up two minutes before the wedding march and so he didn't do anything at all. We only made agreements in a foreign language. Yes, because being from the south, he spoke only the Lucanian dialect, and I then conversed in Campanian; and since we were in Prato, the choir looked at us as if we were speaking Aramaic.
Add to that the gentleman, so as not to look bad, was already dead drunk. He smelled of grappa as if a distillery had gone up in flames!
At the Ave Maria, I give my whole beautiful introduction, movingly sweet, and he starts with an AAAAAVVVEEEEEEEEEEE of 15 seconds, then begins to go from 4/4 to 6/8 to 3/4 and various time signatures unknown to music. At that point, I went completely by ear; I threw away the score, ignoring what the good Schubert had written, exercising my innate vocation to round off something audible.
The funny thing is that everyone was looking at me as if to say, "is this an unpublished piece???"
In the end, he was moved (but only him) and I had proof that after 15 years playing with old ladies, nothing scares me anymore!
