Good morning, precious friends of the forum from whom I have received excellent practical advice over these months; today's problem is as follows:
I use Finale 2011 - I wrote a score including two transposing instruments, clarinet and alto sax, and I wrote their staves directly transposed; however, the client is now telling me that while they want the parts transposed, they would like the score to be written in concert pitch.
I have made a copy of the file and I would like to act on the staves of the two individual instruments in the score; do you recommend using the "Transpose" utility or is there somewhere a function for "transpose to concert pitch"? I tried with the clarinet to transpose "diatonically" down a second, but it gives me several errors;
for example, where I have a G, which would correspond to the F played by the B-flat clarinet, Finale transforms the written note from G (F effect) into F-sharp because it thinks this is still part of a transposing clarinet and therefore if it previously had to play an F, it must now play one degree below in the scale, i.e., E, so it writes F-sharp for me, whereas I would want it to simply write F because it must sound like an F, i.e., the real effect of the original written C. Or where there was previously a G-sharp and the effect was F-sharp, i.e., one tone/degree below, by transposing down a second instead of writing F-sharp as the concert pitch, it continues to reason for the transposing instrument and writes F double-sharp as if the effect should be E-sharp (i.e., F).
I tried to do a "chromatic" transposition down a major second, i.e., the fateful whole tone; these problems improve, but it writes for example C-flats instead of writing B directly; well, I can change it enharmonically with one click, but if there were an intelligent function I would save time.
