How do you switch from solo violin to the violin section within the same musical staff?
I am asking because between different instruments it is simple; you just select the measure and from the utilities menu choose: change instrument.
But if you perform the same operation between solo violin and violin section, or similarly for viola/s or cello/s and double bass/es... the music does not change

There are several ways, I tried the method you already use and it works well even between violin and violin section

Nothing appears for me, if I do the same test from violin to flute only... it changes instrument and timbre

The timbre is changed; if you move between violin and the violin section, you should add an object from the expression menu to describe the change... I don't know, write "solo" and then "all".
Anyway, if you listen, you will see that the change in timbre can be heard
