I cried listening to the "Funeral March" from Beethoven's Eroica: now YOU are no longer here!

I cried listening to the first movement of Beethoven's Violin Concerto, thinking of that man dead in the Nazi extermination camps, while he played this music with the violin.

I cried listening to the last movement of Beethoven's Fifth, while I looked, oh unknown girl, at your young face so expressive and beautiful, and I thought that it is still worth hoping!

the silence of thousands of people.

in Piazza Della Scala... there was a silence like in the countryside of the Lodi region.

The music was dense, thick, palpable... and not funereal but full of life.

Your smile remains with us. And YOU remain with us in that music.

Thank you Maestro Abbado! Even Beethoven owes you much.
