Throughout the 20th century and even today, Debussy has been looked at and is still being looked at for his harmony and his "search for sonorities."
However, no one, except for John Cage, has taken Debussy as a reference also regarding the idea of form. They have all returned to a conception of form that is fundamentally classicist or post-romantic (and combinations thereof).
Instead, Debussy's formal innovations consisted in abandoning the idea of consequential development and in characterizing pieces through the succession of harmonic and melodic episodes.
A sort of formal alea to which very few have looked (who?).
