I am opening this topic dedicated to formal analysis, but specifically aimed at reviewing the best texts you know on the subject and whether they contain references to large structures such as the concerto, the sonata, etc.

Gorini Falco-Jorio, specifically to understand incised [musical] elements, semi-phrase, phrase and period by applying these concepts to tripartite ABA-type forms. It also deals with the dodecaphonic field.

It wouldn't be bad to know Dionisi's "formal analysis notes," another slim little book that is also inexpensive

"Analysis of piano and orchestra concertos" by Fano-Moroni which I find very interesting, even if written in the '50s. Very detailed both on form and harmony

As RStrauss used to say, Schoenberg's "Fundamentals of Musical Composition" is highly recommended. It is not very easy to find in bookstores, but it is worth it

I find Schoenberg's texts very interesting... but not very educational...

To understand the analysis of contemporary music, I would add this recently released but truly useful text:

"Semiography and Semiology of Contemporary Music" published by Rugginenti.

I bought it here with free shipping and practically immediate delivery.

but I searched and it can also be found on ibs.it or feltrinelli.it perhaps for a few euros less.

The title is in English but the text is Italian, English, French and German in a single volume. It was very useful to me for the analysis of scores by foreign composers.
