Good morning to everyone present, I was particularly intrigued by the presence of enthusiasts of piano technique and technicality; I am actually an engineer specializing in acoustics (competent technician in environmental acoustics) and my first profession, many years ago, to support myself during my studies, was a piano restorer, guided by my uncle in his workshop. I must say that the immeasurable passion for sound was born in this adolescent period of my life and even today I have made it my profession. I approached this blog because in the artisan workshop of my partner's son, a gentleman left an old KAWAI grand piano with him, which judging by the serial number, should be from the second half of the 50s, not knowing how to get rid of it. I looked at it and tried to listen to the sound, which apart from being out of tune is not bad, and even the keyboard responds. Now looking at this piano, I have regained the desire to undertake an enterprise, namely attempting to reinvigorate the action and put it into optimal working order. After dismantling the action, I realized that the instrument requires interventions such as the total replacement of all felts, the partial replacement of some fork pins, and a general tuning/regulation. I used to know how to do all these things and I would like to try my hand at this undertaking. My difficulty, however, is in finding the spare parts, accessories, and specific tools to do it. Is there anyone who can help me or point me in the right direction to do this?
