nor am I sure. but I'm not too interested in investigating and finding out.
What I can hear is this melody (one of the most frequented... transcriptions, arrangements, adaptations)
A musical work is truly like a tree: you cannot see the roots, but you can see the fruits. They may be liked or not. This melody has been liked by many.

What can be said with certainty is that Schubert was not, as was also the case with Beethoven, a Catholic of a special kind. To what extent the "Marian cult" belonged to him is therefore still to be determined.

But what would the doubt be?

Zedef, as far as I know, was dedicated to a prostitute, so devotion yes, but towards something more carnal

Annuccia, if it was dedicated to a prostitute, damn, long live.
So Schubert understood the true meaning of Jesus' words, who had an attitude more of mercy
than of condemnation towards these people; in fact, the Pharisees accused him of frequenting "bad company,"
publicans and sinners, whom He instead understood and forgave.
But those he disliked were precisely those Pharisees, false and hypocritical moralists.
He condemned these without forgiving them.
Remember Pope Francis? "Who am I to judge?"

So Boesendorfer, why doesn't the Pope declare that Schubert's Ave Maria is well-accepted at weddings? It seems to me that Gounod is okay and Schubert is not. However, many priests are tolerant.

Carletto, if the Pope calls me, I'll ask him .... I'll let you know.

Boesendorfer, evidently the substance does not change
