I am a musicologist, I am totally inexperienced regarding mechanics but I would like to learn and perhaps even follow a good tuner and learn the trade... at the moment I came across this site because my piano, a Foerster still Czech from around 1970, has a damper that does not fall... is there any intervention I can perform? Or perhaps this is not the place to direct a request for explanations and instructions? thank you, lucigao
You are certainly in the right place, but the one I consider the expert par excellence (because he is able to evaluate even the mistakes a novice might make and, therefore, give foolproof advice) is PianoExpert, who, for some mysterious reason, has not yet replied to You. But I have no doubt that he will do so shortly.

Here I am: It is a grand piano... if the damper falls!!!! Then check if the sliding hole of the rod is too tight. If it does not depend on this, check the mechanism which is at the bottom where the rod is screwed in. The mechanism that is moved by the key in its elevation. It is probably screwed too high:
