hello everyone
how to find the correct height of the hammer rest rail on a grand piano? since the felted pin has two registers, the upper one obviously tightens everything, but what about the adjustment of the lower nut?
and also: should the adjustment of the roller stop on the repetition lever be in the center of the roller or slightly on the edge?

The hammer rail, once the hammer-to-string distance has been adjusted, must be 3-4 mm from the regulating lever. It is adjusted first with the lower regulating screw and then locked with the upper one. Tighten the upper screw well so that it does not loosen, as it could generate noise during the hammer rebound.
The roller should, if possible, be centered on the repetition lever (I say possibly because there is always a slight compromise between the pilot-heel-repetition lever-roller alignments). The inner line of the escapement upright must coincide with the inner part of the roller's wooden core + a fraction of a mm. This ensures good repetition and a full "forte". The geometry of the action is correct when the upright is on the same line as the inner part of the roller's wooden core, as if it were an extension of it (no slight angles).
This is why I am against shaving the hammers. The distances and alignments are altered, causing the energy transmission to be distorted and thus affecting the good control of the response of the entire action (modification of the "geometry" of the action).
