good evening, while recording the mechanics of my piano, a Steinbach 136 cm height year 1940 (among other things I have never found the serial number, and the piano has always been in my family's home) I noticed a hammer-to-string distance of as much as 6 cm compared to the usual 40/45 mm. I am asking then how such a distance is possible, but above all how to restore a correct distance. I tried putting shims under the support bar, but this reduces the travel of the left pedal.
Should I leave everything as it is and adjust accordingly or do you recommend something else?

But probably the hammer rail has moved forward or the "piano" pedal has gotten stuck. Check and if necessary post a photo of both the action and the pedals. Also, you should feel a certain "emptiness" when you press the keys down. Check it out
The pedal is correctly registered. If I act on the drivers, to reach 40mm the hammer moves away from the bar, and if instead I insert a shim between the rod controlled by the pedal and the bar lever, the pedal travel decreases too much, i.e., it is as if I were holding the left pedal down.

Disproportionate!!!!!! It's poorly regulated or the hammer rail has shifted...... everything needs to be checked. Try posting some photos again, if you want.
