The use of liquid lubricants, over time, makes things worse. It has been found that Ballistol, a highly advertised liquid, over time, as it dries out, creates more friction. First and foremost, one must see if the bushings have been damaged.
What piano is it? Can we see some photos of the instrument, the action, and specifically the hammer rail?
If it is an upright, the pins are hidden and a sample disassembly is necessary to verify.
Depending on the condition of the hammers, one must see if it is worth changing the pins. It might be necessary and convenient to change the hammer, shank, hammer knob, and capstan.
