Harmonic analysis of “TIME REMEMBERED” – B. Evans – Part III

In the course of the third part, I will give some practical advice on choosing scales to pair with the chord from the sheet music.

When different chords can be paired with the same scale, it is preferable to use the common scale.

B-9 and C maj+11 have the C lydian scale in common, and therefore this can be used, and eventually also the scales C lydian augmented or C lydian diminished. For example, C ly on B-9 and C ly dim, or C ly augmented on Cmaj+11. The same concept can be applied by analogy to subsequent harmonic situations.

Fmaj and E-9 have the F lydian scale in common.

A-7, D-7 and G-7 have the Bb lydian scale in common.

Ebmaj and Abmaj have the Ab lydian scale in common.
A-9, D-9, G-7 and C-7 have the Bb lydian scale in common.

E-9 and B-9 have the C lydian scale in common.

F#-9 and B-9 have the D lydian scale in common.

Ebmaj, D-9 and C-9 have the Eb lydian scale in common.
