i am a new member of the forum and my name is Manfredo.
I own two pianos, one of which is very old and on which I studied as a child. The instrument already had problems back then, but since it has belonged to my family for almost half a century, I would like to attempt a restoration (restoration is a big word for me) that will allow me to make it sound decently again.
The biggest problems I have encountered are:
- oxidation that has blocked some keys but, from what I read in a discussion found on the forum, one needs to file it down and the necessary tolerance can be recovered;
- the cloth dampers (briglie) that connect the hammer to the lower mechanism. Well, some of them are so old they are falling apart. I found replacement dampers, but on the mechanics, on the hammer side, they are immersed in glue within the seat where the hammer is fixed to the rest of its mechanism.
How can I replace these dampers?
