Hi everyone, I played the piano for several years with a private teacher when I was little. Then I quit. Now I would like to start again and I really don't know where to begin. To explain: I'm not exactly at zero, my fingers have memory, but obviously after 20 years of nothing I need to practice to regain independence etc. I don't have difficulty with reading music. At the moment I don't think I will take lessons, but as soon as possible I would like to resume those as well. What do you suggest in such desperate cases? :D

Absolutely not a hopeless case! First of all, welcome.

I believe one must start again without expecting to overcome difficulties through "technical exercises". In my opinion, you should take up the old studies and pieces you have studied and read them again with a certain slowness and, above all, with great relaxation, even if the sound is not very "pronounced". The hand will find its natural posture without being forced into excessive muscular exercises. I believe one must seek the participation of all muscles, not just those of the fingers, but without forcing, without stiffness. Good concentration on a piece that is indeed easy and familiar thanks to past study will help maintain this "starting point".
