I hadn't read it... Anyway, by more layers I mean when one wishes to use multiple voices. It seems to me that it is possible to write parts up to 4 voices. In the View - Select Layer menu. What if I needed a fifth voice?

Then I had an intuition. At most 4, but can you cite a score where you find more than 4 independent voices on one staff?

I ask because more than 4 would be a mess. Keep in mind that for every "voice" you can also write dyads, chords, etc.; clearly if the 4 voices had independent rhythmic movements, you would hit this limit.

Obviously the pf (piano) is an exception in the sense that you can write with 8 voices, 4 on the upper staff and 4 on the lower one... if you wanted to go up to 10/12... perhaps you would run out of fingers to play.

Ok, it remains a limit, but one quite close to what actually happens.

Was it just curiosity or do you have a use case?

No no, it was just curiosity. However, there are 5-part fugues by Bach in The Well-Tempered Clavier and perhaps there could be something that cannot be written with Finale if every voice has a different rhythm in a measure... Of course, it is a difficult case but possible. In the end, I don't think it would have taken that much to correct this thing and be able to have n levels instead of just 4 levels, right?

Anyway, I am becoming a monster with Finale.

Actually, while I'm at it, I'll ask a favor of Frank or anyone else who would like to take a look and correct any errors, which there will certainly be. I have identified many, unallowed leaps, but they are there and I will tell you that they actually sound good... I am doing some transcriptions for my father. Starting from some songs by Ornella Vanoni, I have to trace back to the scores which have become impossible to find; downloading the MIDI to reconstruct the score is out of the question because they are not classic arrangements, they are very, very particular arrangements. Imagine that my father and I even managed to find the name of the arranger who handled this reissue of Sassi and Domani ĆØ un altro giorno, who is an elderly pianist named Antonello Vannucchi. We called (I won't tell you how many phone calls it took to get to the number, we even went through Marina Rei's father) and a lady answered, probably an assistant, to whom we requested the scores for all instruments, but she told us they had been lost. A very dear but chatty lady, she kept me on the phone for 20 minutes and in the end invited me and my father to attend some concerts of the company... Incredible! Ahahahahahah. If we had talked for another 30 minutes, maybe she would have even invited us to dinner. Anyway, the moral is, I had to start transcribing them by hand. Listening measure by measure and trying to distinguish the instruments and write a score for each instrument. A huge job!

Tall of this is a year old; I had written them all by hand, and now that I am getting very good confidence with Finale, I have rewritten them all on the PC.

I'm posting them here... Let me know...

Yes, but on two staves ... 5 voices on one is almost inhuman ... even to follow ....

If we are talking about pop music... what wouldn't be unpermitted?

I challenge you, it is not a rigorous style... I would respect the arranger's wishes and wouldn't touch a comma unless following a very precise artistic design.

Ahh why does every staff have its own level?

I didn't know this... Interesting, well yes in this case it is practically impossible... It would be 10 voices in an eleven-line staff

Well, it's not a matter of permission but of pleasantness to the ear, but some fifths were just ugly and I removed them, even though listening to the record they were there... In other cases I liked them and I left them, just to name one thing...

I use Notion 3, much more economical and with excellent sounds......Sibelius is overrated and overpriced; it's fine if someone is working as a conductor and they pay for it, otherwise it's overrated....and the sounds are pathetic

I also knew this news. Avid is objectively earning much more with Pro Tools and all the Pro Tools oriented hardware. Evidently, the earnings from Sibelius did not cover the development expenses. Or perhaps as notation software, there weren't many things left to work on. In the end, what do you want to write?? The language is the same, so they thought about selling to grab the last bit of money possible.

A few days ago I started using Musescore, it might seem absurd but at first I didn't even consider it,

now I find it extremely simple and fast to use, plus some solutions, such as irregular groupings

are much simpler to use than in other dedicated programs, this is what I have found.

Very intuitive, practical, simple.
