For some time now my iLok hasn't been working properly; basically, it deactivates and is no longer recognized by the PC, effectively invalidating the licenses contained within it. Is it because of Windows 10 or is the USB stick broken? Has anyone ever had a problem like this?
I have never had this problem, but I would check the iLok.com website for actual compatibility with Windows 10, which is quite recent.
In general, the computers I use for audio work, I only update when it is no longer possible to maintain that version of the operating system. My Mac Pro still runs a version of Lion (10.7.5). On this version, I am sure that all plugins work as they should because they are now well-tested. Some of my friends are even stuck on Leopard (10.5).
Certainly, if tomorrow a plugin comes out that will make my life much easier and requires at least OS 10.8, I will proceed with the update.
In essence, I am always against updating without a more than valid reason if things currently work as they should, and this applies to Mac as well as PC, iPhone, and iPad.
In any case, coming back to your problem, you can simply take one of your plugins or libraries and test it on a friend's PC if you do not have a second computer. If things work fine on that PC, it is certainly an operating system problem. If the same problem occurs, it is evident that it is a problem with the USB dongle. In this case, you can always get another iLok and request the transfer of licenses to the new device. In short, nothing serious...
