Reading the thread on diatonic approach, dominant approach, parallel approach, chromatic approach, I've become a bit confused with these approaches which should anyway be for parallel motion, and the independent lead which instead should proceed by contrary motion.
The cases known to me are the following and are labeled as I.L.:
1) if the lead rises by a tone (sixth seventh) or falls by a tone (seventh, sixth)
2) if the lead rises by a semitone or falls by a semitone
3) if the lead repeats on the tonic or dominant
In reverse order:
3a) If the repeated note is on the dominant, the block chords rise by a semitone
3b) If the repeated note is on the tonic, the block chords fall by a semitone
2a) If the lead rises by a semitone, then I descend chromatically
2b) If the lead falls by a semitone, then I rise chromatically
1a) If the lead rises by a tone, then I descend diatonically
1b) If the lead falls by a tone, then I rise diatonically
This is at a theoretical level. In the meantime, can you confirm? Can 6 very clear examples in C major be posted?
