hello everyone,

i have been commissioned two jobs:

1) score of an instrumental piece

2) piano solo transcription of the same musical piece

I believe my client does not fully realize the commitment that all this involves. In any case, it is the first time I have been commissioned to write music and I wouldn't know how to quantify
the work economically; I only know that the piece is demanding. Could you please give me some reference indications?

thanks

Since you are talking about arrangement, I imagine it is an existing piece to be arranged for a more or less given ensemble.

It depends a lot on your timing, but as far as I am concerned, an estimate could be around €300.00 per minute. To be clear, 5' ... €1,500 plus taxes.

Regarding the transcription, do you mean starting from the original or from the one already arranged? In both cases, I would aim for around €150 per minute. To be clear, 5' ... €750 plus taxes

For scores, €5 per page plus taxes (counting both those of the full score and those of the individual parts).

You are the only one who can make an estimate of the working hours... multiply by what you normally charge for lessons and give them a rough estimate. Please, define the contract terms clearly (and in writing)!

it is an instrumental progressive rock piece of Italian origin, quite complex, for a classic rock band lineup: solo electric guitar, rhythm guitar, piano, keyboards, bass, and drums. There are many virtuoso and effect-driven passages, especially for the guitar and piano.

thanks to everyone for the tips
