every now and then, in my free time, I like to deepen my ignoble and limited guitar knowledge, also because, in the long run, the C chord... falls apart! and quite a bit!
reading here and there, I discovered the existence of POSITIONS (relating to the left hand).
correct me if I'm wrong....a POSITION is the grouping of 4 consecutive frets and each fret represents the field of action of a single finger. therefore:
- on the I fret: index (1)
- on the II fret: middle (2)
- on the III fret: ring (3)
- on the IV fret: pinky (4)
Now...if I understood correctly,
- the FIRST POSITION is that formed by the I, II, III and IV fret
- the SECOND POSITION is that formed by the II, III, IV and V fret
- the THIRD POSITION is that formed by the III, IV, V and VI fret
- and so on
have I understood correctly, so far?
finally....how many POSITIONS are considered on the classical guitar?
I read that at the XII fret, the same conditions as the open strings are reproduced (but an octave higher)
so it would occur to me to think that there are precisely 12 POSITIONS.
Who can enlighten me, please?
