I hadn't thought of it before, but I wanted to tell you, dear musician friends, that it is possible to play using my performance of "Intervallic Composition No. 1" as a base.
Obviously, I don't think using a piano is suitable because the sounds overlap, but any other musical instrument with a different timbre would be perfectly fine.
In particular, my advice is:
- perform an overlaid monophonic melodic line
- use the intervals without thinking absolutely about a normal or altered diatonic scale, nor at all about the underlying harmony.
I will list the intervals I used in the piece and which you must use:
- semitone
- whole tone
- minor third
- major third
You can construct melodic lines by using these intervals in a randomized manner, obviously trying to give musical sense to the melodic line. The use of the indicated intervals is at your discretion without any connection to concepts like "tonality" or "modality."
What is the logic behind all this?
Music is perceived and enjoyed because repetitions exist; for example, the repetition of a musical phrase even across different scalar or chordal levels—well, by repeating the intervals, the listener becomes accustomed to them, but not immediately, and conceives them as a "repetition," which is why they enjoy them.
It is advisable to use at most two intervals that are chosen beforehand and occasionally insert a third one.
