Fabio, you know what the issue is: it's that I am realizing, given the turn the discussion has taken, that I am coming across as a defender of television and Rai in particular and, instead in reality, I watch very little television - and that little bit is certainly Rai - and above all, it has never been my favorite mass medium since I have always preferred the radio.

Let's try to bring some order to the matter then.

The discussion started from a proposal by Frank regarding how Rai used to be once and how it is today. The discussion was then developed by you and Luca.

I intervened to say: watch out, the Rai of the past was absolutely not democratic and, from every point of view, today's is far better and also much more democratic. But this does not mean that it is fully so, let that be clear!

The reason why it is better is substantially linked to one fact: the presence of many channels compared to back then and some, in particular, that dedicate their programming to cultural and social subjects.

Rai was not democratic because, before December 15, 1979, the day Rai 3 was born, information and the way of making television was one-way.

Today it is no longer like that.

Now, if you feel like it and have the time - it lasts just under half an hour - this is an example of what I am asserting.

Back then, following your line of reasoning which could expand to any sector (companies, craftsmanship, culture), everything was more "one-way" from the perspective of choices (state/people, media/people).

In the 50s, you could make people believe anything, but today this.... is more difficult..

The channels, the choices etc... regarding this, nothing to say .... they no longer have the rigid rod with which schoolchildren were punished behind blackboards... but they bypass the problem on more dangerous and psychological fronts.

I know you didn't want to defend RAI, but rather I think you wanted to defend your point of view, which I also share; in the sense that even I would turn to those channels if I had to choose.

I don't want to say that I don't watch TV.

It's just that having followed some studies on mass media and persuasion techniques, I can't watch a simple commercial without taking it apart and understanding its secrets... it's stronger than me..

Yes, Frank started from the purism of the idea... and I believe he wanted to shed light more on a spiritual/sociological aspect of contemplation in the face of a masterpiece and a master of the time... so applauded and "feared" or perhaps better "esteemed".... so much so as to put words into the presenter's mouth.. and now me after Bach... etc Tec... I think it was a reflection linked not so much and solely to a different RAI, but to a different RAI for a "different" society.
